Horse racing in Mauritius is a veritable institution, rooted in local culture for over two centuries. The Champ de Mars, located in Port Louis, is one of the oldest racecourses in the southern hemisphere, inaugurated in 1812. Each season, from March to December, the Mauritians are passionate about the races, in a festive and popular atmosphere. The horses, often imported from South Africa, Australia or Europe, are trained locally by renowned stables.
Our students have the opportunity to be welcomed into most of the a9> these stables to practise Etiopathy as well as in the a16> numerous equestrian centres on the island.
Race days attract a wide audience, from families to seasoned punters. The Mauritius Turf Club, founded in 1812, manages the organisation of the races, with a calendar packed with events. Mauritian and foreign jockeys compete for prestigious titles, particularly during the international weekend that closes the racing season. On this occasion, our students are invited as VIPs to one of the racecourse boxes.
